沈万三（张卫健 饰）和朱重八（高强 饰）本是两个流落街头的乞儿，一日二人遇见了一个叫做刘伯温（许还山 饰）的人，二人的命运乃至历史都由此改写。刘伯温送给朱重八一把匕首，他由此进入郭子兴的义军，并改名朱元璋；而沈万山则得到一个叫做“聚宝盆”的泥盆，回乡经商。几年过去后，朱元璋在军队中混得风生水起，沈万山如日中天的生意却在此时遭人陷害而面临危机。二人此时重聚，身价都不比从前，当年的兄弟情也慢慢发生了变化。沈万山在危急时刻依然对兄弟朱重八仗义疏财，而朱重八却觊觎沈万山的财富，沈万山的一大笔钱不翼而飞，兄弟俩的关系由此埋下隐患……。Based on real events, the story follows a father and son (Offerman and Tremblay) who identify as Sovereign Citizens, a group of anti-government extremists, as they venture across the country and find themselves in a standoff with a chief of police (Dennis Quaid) that sets off an intense manhunt with tragic consequences.。Based on "The Kreutzer Sonata" by Leo Tolstoy.。
