讲述修筑康藏公路部队某部红旗排长李玉明，从医院回到了团部，政委和同志们都热情地欢迎他。但他却迫不及待地要求回排里去。原来红旗排正在担任几万修路大军的开路先锋，可是被一条水急、暗礁多的江水挡住了去路。他们强渡了几次，都没有成功，而且有人负伤。政委同意李玉明立即回去，并要求红旗排在“七一”以前渡过江去，寻找一条通向桥头工地——狮子山高峰的通路……。Comedy about the proverbial genie who comes out of a bottle (a table lamp in this instance) to serve his new master. The only problem is that instead of helping his master, the genie (Burl Ives) tends to get his master (Tony Randall) into more predicaments than he gets him out of.。
