二十世纪30年代的上海，唐朝家二女儿唐绰约与青年才俊杨俊德订婚后不久就意外身亡，唐母觉得杨俊德是一个可以依靠的人，且大女儿唐翘楚又对杨俊德有意，于是促成了两人的婚姻。但一个私家侦探的意外死亡，让翘楚洞悉了自己丈夫的秘密，他至少结过两次婚，每次都以丧妻结束，而丧妻后他都迎娶了更富有的女子，翘楚陷入了深深的恐惧中。。Back Stage is a 1919 comedy, one of the last films that Buster Keaton would appear with Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle before they went their separate ways, Keaton would get his own studio, and Arbuckle got into feature length films.
